Names Dr. John R. Allen as Professor Emeritus
"Perhaps the most impressive ceremony of the morning was the presentation to Dr. John R. Allen in the name of the faculty, trustees and student body, a love locket by Dean C.C. Cody.
Dr. Allen has been professor of philosophy in Southwestern for more than twenty years, and is now retiring. Also, the degree of professor emeritus of philosophy was conferred upon him. Dr. Cody in conclusion said to him: "I swear to you that we respect you, we honor you, we love you, and shall ever cherish your memory." - June 12, 1912 |
Dr. Allen Preaches to Students of S.M.U.
The Megaphone Georgetown, Tex., Oct. 31, 1916 Dr. John R. Allen, emeritus professor of philosophy at S. U. and now editor of the Williamson County Sun, visited in Dallas for the past two weeks and while there was invited to fill the pulpit of the University Methodist chuch, Rev. A. Frank Smith, pastor. The "Campus" gives a very glowing account of his sermon, characterizing it as impressive and inspirational. Some of the strongest sermons that we have heard from the pulpit and chapel during our college course have been by Dr. Allen, and we are sure that S. M. U. students indeed enjoyed an intellectual feast. The Megaphone (Georgetown, Tex.), Vol. 10, No. 5, Ed. 1 Tuesday, October 31, 1916 Page: 3 of 4 |
